Hi Fellow Zoo Folk,
This is an extremely important email and I wouldn't be asking your help if it wasn't truly needed. You may or may not already know the plight of Animals Asia's Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre. This is where I am currently working and we have recently been ordered with an eviction notice. This is the final attempt (in a long line of attempts) by Mr Tien the Director of Tam Dao National Park, to get rid of us and we fear it may actually work. He is an extremely greedy and corrupt man who has managed to convince the Ministery of Defence that the land we have built on is of military significance. Once we are gone it is believed a company that his daughter is part owner in, will move into area and build hotels and an ecopark (applications have already been submitted). Ironically Mr Tien has also just submitted an application to open his own 'wildlife park'. No doubt he has plans to use our existing facilities and turn the place into nothing more than a caged petting zoo at the expense of the animals.
We currently house 104 rescued bears at our Vietnam Centre and all of these bears will be forced back into cages if we have to move. 77 local people will lose their jobs and the region will suffer considerably with the loss of tourist dollars that the centre generates. Animals Asia itself also stands to lose over 2 million US dollars that has been put into the centre and the bears rehabilation. I simply can't imagine how much stress our bears will have to face by having to go back into cages whilst we find somewhere new to build. We quite simply don't have the money to rebuild and if we were to somehow acheive that then it is expected to take up to two years for a new centre to be finished with outside enclosure access.
I'd be ever so appreciative if you could take ten or so minutes to help out in any or all of the following ways.
Currently there are four ways of showing support Animals Asia:
1. Sign the online petition
2. Email the Vietnamese Prime Minister to share your disaproval of the eviction
3. Email / send a letter to MARD (Ministery of Agriculture and Rural Development) convincing them that eviction of our centre is wrong and unjust
4. Spread the word to as many people as you can. Share via Facebook, Twitter and blogs. Social Media can really make a difference!
All of this can be done from the Animals Asia Website - there is also more detail on the circumstances surrounding the eviction. You can go to

Thanks in Advance!
