Marsupials of Australia
The Kangaroos, Wallabies and Rat-kangaroos

The fifty-one species of marsupials illustrated in this splendid limited edition include some of the most popular and engaging of Australian marsupials. Commonly described as the kangaroos, wallabies and rat-kangaroos, they are classified within the families Potoroidae and Macropodidae, and include the potoroos, bettongs, wallaroos and pademelons. Many species are listed as endangered, and some, such as the Toolache wallaby, are classified as extinct. The superb watercolour paintings by Rosemary Woodford Ganf reveal the fine anatomical detail of these creatures, and include authentic backgrounds showing typical plant species from the habitat of each animal. The artist’s passion for her subject is evident in the exquisite detail and the artistic flair in every painting. There are fifty watercolours in all and one black and white drawing. The drawing is of the Central hare-wallaby, which is known only by a skull specimen. For Rosemary, it has been a special privilege to illustrate rare and beautiful animals such as the Warabi from the Mitchell Plateau in Western Australia, which has never before been hand illustrated. Rosemary’s illustrations are supported by authoritative scientific text by zoologists John Calaby and Tim Flannery. Each species is described by diagnosis, size, description, ecology, reproduction and distribution.
